Week 10 1/23/07

Dang my endurance has taken a little bit of a blow, but all in all I am feeling pretty good. I had a very solid worjout on Saturday, 3 hill repeats at Torrey Pines, then a ride on the 56 out to almost the 15 freeway and then back to the base of Torrey for another 3 hill repeats. I tell you that last hill repeat was a doosie, my legs were straight j-e-l-l-o!!! After the bike ride i did a 15 minute run with some other team members, just to start training my legs for this feeling.

After the workout I hung with the group for the first time all season, it was actually nice to start to bond with some of these people outside of the specific training activities. It was just a burrito at Chipotle, but hey it was some bonding.

I ended up going on a trail run by myself on Sunday morning in Balboa Park and then did spinning on Monday night, for the first time in about 3 weeks!!! It felt good to get back into the gym and sweat...on someone else's bike too!!!

I am off to swim tonight, but today it is confirmed, I have a nince place to stay for the race in Kona, HI.

Week 9 1/17/07

Well I am back in the swing of things now...finally. I would not say I am 100%, but getting there. Last Saturday 1/13 was my first day back training, with a break for 13 days due to being ill. The layoff was very frustrating since I have been building a great base, but what can you do. I guess I can say that under training is better than over training during this period!!!

On Saturday 1/13 we rode from Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach straight east up Lomas Sante Fe all the way through Rancho Sante Fe on Del Dios and then up past Lake Hodges. This to date has been the most scenic ride and was a nice welcome back!!! Unfortunately the day was extremely cold, I think at one point my thermometer said it was 36 degrees, but what can you do?? I ended up riding with the advanced group, so we did the large hill portion twice up and past Lake Hodges, then joined the group and headed back to Fletcher Cove.

Once back at Fletcher Cove, I did a quick change, hopped in my car and drove across PCH to an elementary school, where we then went on a 3.1 mile trail run around the lagoon. By the end of this run, I was definitely pretty beat, but was happy that after a 13 day layoff I was able to ride over 27 miles and do a 3.1 mile run. It is now Wednesday and although I took off from my usual Monday night spinning class, I did do the group swim last night and plan on running 4-5 miles tonight and swimming again Thursday before our next group workout this coming Saturday.

All in all as long as I can kick the remnants of this flu, I should be back to where I was in another week or so.

Week 8 1/9/07

Well this is my first post in the New Year and I apologize for missing the past few weeks. Unfortunately I have been extremely sick with some viral flu/bug going around and have been unable to train for the past 10 days. My last workout was Saturday December 30th where we did about a 40 mile bike ride from Fletcher Cove up to Canon street on PCH and over to east of Palomar Airport Road and up the big hill on College. We did this hill twice then headed back. I had not been feeling well the day before, so it did not surprise me when I started to feel lower back pain and aches all over my body the last 5 miles or so. The next day, New Years Eve, I knew I had finally caught something and that I was going to be out for awhile.
Up until Friday 12/29 I had been on a great workout regime, and even ran in the Big Balloon Parade the day before in an inflatable ballerina outfit, as to go with the balloon theme. I actually wore the outfit to the race in hope of winning the cash prize, which I was planning on donating to the LLS, but I did not win.

However, I did win the fan favorite and pretty much had to play to character in the outfit the whole pre-run and run. I'll tell you though; the last two tenths of the race were pretty rough going. I had pretty much overheated my body by then and was fighting off not tossing my cookies to help alleviate the unwell feeling....thank goodness mind over body control helped me out.

The previous Saturday 12/23 was a great bike ride from Scripps Poway Parkway all the way up that long treacherous hill to the 67 where we took a left and headed up the next set of hills into Ramona and back. This ride by far was one of the more difficult ones, but at the same time so gratifying. To get out in the country all by yourself and take in the fresh smells and light breezes made me think of my time back up in Tahoe....without a care in the world. I am looking forward to when we do this ride again.

It is now Tuesday 1/9 and I am still trying to fight off the viral thing I have caught. It has run the gamut through my body, from keeping me bed ridden for 4 straight days, to moving to a stomach situation, to now where it currently is residing....in my head. I have the worst head congestion and am still running a fever. I am going to the doctor again tomorrow just to make sure there is nothing else I can be doing.

I am planning on making it to track tomorrow (Wednesday), but am not sure if I can run yet or not. We will just have to wait and see.......
